Since 2003, Eric Bouvet organize master classes to photographers (beguinners, semi pro and professionals) who want to spent few days with professional in order to deepen their photographic skills.
Besides his experience in photo reportage, Eric led more than 80 workshops in differents structures as the Rencontres d’Arles.
More than any other kind of photography, perhaps, reportage demands of the photographer a real ability to observe and capture a given situation. Any successful account of an event, a context or people engaged in some form of activity depends on the capacity to spot a number of crucial elements, often of brief duration, which suffice to convey the content and meaning of the subject.
Eric Bouvet will show participants how to develop their powers of observation, how to function in specific settings and how to overcome the technical constraints involved. Practical exercises will place particular stress on lighting and framing.
In more general terms the workshop will revolve around the photographer’s involvement with situations: how he makes his way into a context, how he participates and how he can make chance work for him. This will also involve making revealing artistic choices which will determine the work’s full scope.
Each day participants will come together to take photographs under the direct supervision of Eric Bouvet.
Alternating sessions of photography and of analysis of the previous day’s images, participants will polish both their technique and their approach, notably by receiving direct feedback on the way their work is seen by others. Eric will give a professional point of view on your productions.
The workshop will also include exercises based on the contact sheets of Eric Bouvet’s own reportages. This will provide an opportunity to compare a range of choices: those of the photographer himself and of different photo editors who have published his work.

Eric Bouvet made his name with the Gamma agency in the 1980s. Freelance since 1990, he is currently working with the famous agency VII. In the course of his career he has provided powerful coverage of many of the most crucial conflicts and historic events of his time, and has published in leading dailies and magazines including Time, Life, Newsweek, Paris-Match and the Sunday Times Magazine. Among the events he has covered are the Tiananmen massacre, the funeral of Ayatollah Khomeini, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War, the two wars in Chechnya, the Somalia and Sudan famines, Lebanon, Israel/Palestine, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. He has also engaged with subjects in France requiring months of work: the paediatric ward at the Curie Institute in Paris, firefighters, coalminers and police working in sensitive urban areas.His work has received wide recognition, including the Bayeux War Correspondent Award for Witness to Madness, on the destroyed city of Grozny, the Paris Match Award, two Golden Visa Award and the Gold Medal for the 150th anniversary of photography. His career also includes five World Press Photo Awards. He has published Femmes du Rwanda (Catleya), La dernière mine (La Martinière) et "Jusqu'au bout" (compte d'auteur)

Depuis 2003 Eric Bouvet organise des master class ouverts à tous photographes (débutants / semi pro / professionels) qui souhaiteraient passer quelques jours au contact d'un professionnel afin de travailler ensemble et d'approfondir leur point de vue sur la photo.
Outre sa très grande expérience de photo-reporter, Éric a déjà animé plus de 80 stages et a travaillé avec plus de 500 stagiaires dans différentes structures dont les Rencontres d'Arles.
Ces ateliers, organisés entre deux et six jours avec des groupes de 10 à 12 personnes se font dans toute la France et à l'etranger.

Eric Bouvet entraînera les participants à développer leur capacité à observer, à se déplacer dans un environnement et à s’affranchir des contraintes techniques de prises de vue.
La lumière, le cadrage et l'instant seront particulièrement travaillés lors d’exercices pratiques.
Il s’agira également de réfléchir sur l’engagement du photographe, sa manière de se glisser dans un contexte, d’y prendre part et de provoquer le hasard. L’occasion de poser des choix esthétiques, informatifs qui donneront la pleine ampleur du travail réalisé.
Les participants se rendront chaque jour ensemble sur un lieu de prise de vue pour bénéficier directement des conseils d’Eric Bouvet.
